Collaborations
EES relies on collaborations to support and enhance its programs.
EES Early Childhood Family Literacy Training Program: EES initiated the Family Literacy Program in the Fall of 2002. The Family Literacy Program is a comprehensive program that addresses literacy as a family affair, extending its efforts to each and every member individually. EES believes that family literacy can be achieved through parenting workshops, parent and child time together, adult education, and a quality educational experience for each child. Initial support for the program came from The San Diego Foundation Weingart-Price Fund at the recommendation of Price Charities Advisory Board, Viterbi Family Foundation,Samuel J. & Katherine French Charitable Trust, The Legler Benbough Foundation, San Diego National Bank and The Wells Fargo Foundation. Additional funding has come from Qualcomm, Inc. The primary goal of EES’s Family Literacy Program is to increase achievement of the children served as shown by the desired results evaluation measurements.
Linda Vista Community Resident Program: Through Pediatrians and Communities Collaborating Together, part of UCSD's Department of Pediatrics, relationships are strengthened with various community organizations that enhance the residents’ exposure to children’s lives in the San Diego Region. The residents work with these communities throughout their residencies. During their first year, the residents participate in a four-week rotation in Community Pediatrics with over 50 community partners and 4 cultural immersion days throughout the year. During the remaining years of residency, the residents develop a long-term relationship with an organization and are given one half-day every other week to develop a project. Through the partnership EES has with Lori Taylor, M.D., once a month the Community Pediatric Rotation will visit our two centers in Linda Vista. The following year a resident may select to develop a long-term relationship with EES for the remainder of their residency and help us with a special project.
Rosie O’Donnell For All Kids Foundation: As a Child Care Collaborative partner, EES has been granted funding for building costs of the Jeff and Deni Jacobs Child Development Center and the David and Jillian Gilmour Early Education Campus, as well as providing staff development and furnishing supplies. The foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping children and their families through child care, early childhood education, literacy and other essential programs.
San Marcos Unified School District (SMUSD): In July 2005, EES partnered with San Marcos Unified School District (SMUSD) to implement and operate part-day preschool programs on four of their elementary school campuses: Alvin Dunn, Knob Hill, Richland, and San Marcos. Since the initial year, EES preschool programs have been incorporated at Joli Ann Leichtag, Paloma, and Twin Oaks. Combined, ten classrooms serve 436 children ages 3-5.
United Way: United Way provides a network of services that support entire families and neighborhoods. EES is certified by the San Diego Chapter of the United Way. EES received a multi-year grant from United Way which helped to support EES in the following ways: purchase of classroom supplies and equipment (including books, toys, furniture, etc.); field trips; staff and parent educational trainings and meetings; Fall and Spring Professional Growth Days; conferences; community affairs staff and outreach resources.
Vista Unified School District (VUSD): Since 1979 EES has offered preschool programs in the city of Vista. In 2007 EES leased land from VUSD to open the David and Jillian Gilmour Early Education Campus. The partnership was further expanded when in the fall of 2008 EES opened preschool classrooms on six of their elementary school campuses: Beaumont, Bobier, Crestview, Hannalei, Mission Meadows, and Temple Heights. Since then, EES opened additional classrooms on the campuses of Casita Center, Grapevine, Foothill Oak, Maryland, and the Vista Academy of the Performing Arts. Combined, 12 classrooms serve 526 children ages 3-5.
